Public Works

The Town of Harrison’s Public Works Department is responsible for the year-round maintenance and safety of all town-owned roads and infrastructure. From summer ditching and culvert work to winter snow and ice removal, the department plays a critical role in keeping our roadways safe and accessible.


Seasonal Responsibilities

  • Summer: Ditching, culvert replacement, grading, and road surface improvements

  • Winter: Snow plowing, sanding, and salting to maintain safe road conditions


Public Works Facility Notice

The Public Works Garage is a working municipal maintenance facility.
For safety reasons, please do not enter the garage or yard unless you are a Harrison Town employee or authorized contractor.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.


Resident Sand Notice

During the winter season, residents may pick up sand from the Transfer Station or outside the Public Works Facility during regular hours.

  • Limit: Two (2) 5-gallon pails per household

  • This sand is for residential walkways and steps only

  • Do not fill pickup trucks or use the sand to treat private roads or driveways


 Roadside Mailbox Guidelines Policy

To help ensure mailboxes are properly placed and protected during winter maintenance operations, the Town of Harrison follows the following guidelines:

  • Mailboxes should be installed at a height of at least 48" from the ground to the bottom of the box.

  • Posts must be constructed of wood, plastic, or lightweight metal that can break away if struck. Avoid using heavy steel or concrete posts.

  • The Town is not liable for damage to mailboxes or posts unless directly hit by town equipment and properly placed per the guidelines.

  • It is the responsibility of property owners to ensure their mailbox is securely installed and maintained in accordance with these specifications.
