General Assistance NOTICE Harrison has a General Assistance program for people in need. This may include help paying for the following:
If you need help, your city or town is required to take your application for General Assistance. Applications will be taken at the Town Office at the following times.
Day(s): Thursday
Your city or town is required to have someone available 24-hours a day to take applications in an emergency.
In an emergency, applicants may contact Cumberland County Regional Dispatch Center at 207-893-2810 and if
this is after Harrison Town Office normal business hours please contact Emergency or After Hours:

Your city or town must give you a written decision within 24 hours of receiving your application for General Assistance. If your city or town refuses to take your application, or if you disagree with a decision that was made orhave questions, you can call the Maine Department of Health and Human Services,
their toll free number is 1-800-442-6003. This phone is answered Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
If you call after 5:00 PM, leave a message and phone number, you will be contacted on the next business day.
Harrison has an ordinance describing the rules for its General Assistance program. A copy is available at the Town Office as well as a copy of the State’s General Assistance law.
